How old are you, and how long have you taken piano lessons?
I am 9 years old, and I’ve been taking piano for 4 years.
What do you love most about playing piano?
I like playing different songs and learning new notes.
What is the hardest thing about playing piano?
Sometimes I don’t know or don’t remember certain notes.
What do you like about your teacher Christine?
She has prizes and makes piano lessons fun. Also she lets me play the addicting sheep game.
What is your favorite song to play, and what is your favorite song to listen to?
I like to play “I Just Can’t Wait to be King” from The Lion King. One of my favorite songs to listen to is “Perfect” by Ed Sheeran.
How old were you when you took your first music lesson, and what instrument was it?
I started taking piano lessons when I was seven from my elementary music teacher after school.
What do you love most about playing and/or singing?
I love the progression of starting out not knowing a song, to putting my own take on it. I’m usually singing jazz, so taking a standard and giving it a fresh approach is my favorite thing to work on.
What do you love most about teaching music?
I love giving students confidence in their playing.
What do you most appreciate about your student Samara?
Samara is a hard worker! She’s working through a bunch of different material and she’s been diligent about it week to week. And I love her humor!
What is one of your favorite songs to play, and what is one of your favorite songs to listen to?
One of my favorite songs to play is Cole Porter’s “I Concentrate On You.” I’ve been loving some of the more funk based jazz groups coming out lately – like “Back Pocket” by Vulfpeck.
