Why Summer Music Lessons Matter – And How to Make Them Work for Your Family

Between vacations, camps, and outdoor activities, summer is a time to take a break from the usual routine for many of us!
While we completely understand if you choose to take the summer off of music lessons, we want to be as clear as possible about how our summer policies work so you can make the best decision for your family.
No matter what your plans are, we value all of our Piano Power families and will always be here for you, whether you continue lessons through the summer or return in the fall!
Keep Your Lesson Spot for Fall
One of the biggest reasons to continue lessons through summer is to keep your teacher and lesson time. Our instructors are highly skilled and in demand, and if you cancel lessons for the entire summer, we must make your spot available to a new student. This means there is no guarantee your current lesson time—or even your current teacher—will be available when you return in the fall.
By staying enrolled, you maintain continuity, avoid starting over with a new teacher, and keep the lesson time that works best for your schedule.
Built-In Flexibility: Three Free Cancellations
We understand that summer plans vary from week to week, which is why Piano Power offers three free-choice cancellations between June and August. That means you can take up to three weeks off without paying for those missed lessons—giving you the flexibility to enjoy summer while keeping progress on track.
Beyond your three free cancellations, families are not charged when a teacher cancels lessons due to vacation or other obligations. A great strategy is to ask your teacher about their summer plans and try to coordinate your own breaks to minimize additional missed lessons.
A Chance to Win Four Free Months of Lessons
Families who continue lessons throughout the summer are automatically entered into a drawing for four free months of lessons (September–December). This is our way of recognizing and rewarding the commitment to consistent learning!
How Summer Lessons Benefit Students
Beyond keeping your teacher and lesson time, continuing lessons through summer has real benefits for students of all ages and skill levels:
- Avoiding learning loss: Taking a long break often leads to setbacks in progress, requiring students to relearn material and rebuild skills in the fall. Staying engaged prevents this frustrating cycle.
- More time to explore: Without the pressures of schoolwork, summer can be a great time for students to work on special projects, explore different musical styles, or even split their lesson time between two instruments.
- Consistency and routine: Keeping a few familiar activities in place over the summer helps maintain a sense of structure and engagement, making the transition back to school in the fall smoother.
Remote Lessons and Other Options
If travel is a concern, we offer remote lessons as a way to stay connected with your teacher while away from home. Many families find that even a mix of in-person and remote lessons keeps their student progressing while accommodating summer travel plans.
