2026-27 Policies & Procedures
Scheduling
Piano Power has a year-round, ongoing lesson schedule. As long as your weekly lesson time is working for you and your teacher, you can keep it as long as you like.
Payment
You’ll receive a monthly invoice, on or around the 5th of each month. Our 45-minute private lessons are $105.
Our hourly rate is $125 (i.e., $62.50 per back-to-back 30-minute lesson). The invoice reflects all lessons for the current month (e.g., an invoice received on October 5th would show all lessons taking place in October). We process your method of payment on or around the 15th of each month.
Our families provide us with a credit card to keep on file, as well as authorization to charge the card on file on a monthly basis.
Tuition rates for 2026-27
Standard tier
- Our 45-minute private lessons are $105.
- Our hourly rate is $125 (i.e., $62.50 per back-to-back 30-minute lesson).
Master tier
About 10% of our faculty have earned the status of master teacher, a veteran who sets the standard of excellence for all Piano Power faculty. Tuition with a master teacher:
- 45-minute private lessons are $119.
- Hourly rate is $142 (i.e., $71 per back-to-back 30-minute lesson).
Across all tiers, you receive a 10% discount if you have weekday sessions either starting before 3:30pm, or starting after 6:45pm.
We have a 45-minute minimum per household visit.
Your tuition fully covers all books, recitals, materials, teacher prep time, and teacher travel time.
Instructional time
Effective lessons rely on a great teacher/student relationship and clear weekly expectations. As a result, the first few minutes of each lesson are spent checking in with the student, asking about their week, and nurturing a foundation of trust and empathy.
The majority of each lesson is instructional time. The final five minutes are reserved for packing up, completing assignment notes for the week ahead, and touching base with a parent or guardian.
Important dates & scheduled closures
The Piano Power calendar is viewable here. It is the responsibility of students, parents, and caregivers to be aware of all Piano Power activities, including recital dates and scheduled closures. Our primary communication is via our monthly email newsletter. You’ll also receive a weekly email reminder of your next lesson.
Cancellation policy
All cancellations should be made via email at scheduling@pianopower.org. Telling your teacher directly is not adequate notice for a cancellation.
Beyond our scheduled closures, you are allowed a limited number of free-choice cancellations:
- From September through May, you are allowed up to two free-choice cancellations. (This number is prorated if you start mid-session.) Cancellations beyond those will be invoiced.
- From June through August, you are allowed an additional three free-choice cancellations. (This number is prorated if you start mid-session.) Cancellations beyond those will be invoiced.
Free-choice cancellations apply for any reason – including illness, travel, and family emergency. They also apply in the event of a student “no-show”. Outside of your free-choice cancellations and Piano Power’s scheduled closures, you will be invoiced for any additional cancellations.
At their discretion, a teacher may offer to reschedule the lesson pending instructor availability. Please note, however, that our instructors cover a wide geographical area, and they cannot guarantee the availability of a feasible makeup option.
If your instructor needs to cancel a lesson and no makeup or substitute options are available, you will receive a credit on the next month’s invoice.
Illness
To protect the health of our community, our families must observe the following rules:
- Please cancel your lesson if your student is ill. Many of our teachers are active performers who rely on the health of their respiratory system for performance, and getting sick can mean missing a gig that has involved months (or more) of preparation and planning.
- For actively sick students who are still feeling up for a lesson, you may request a virtual make-up lesson, and we will do our best to fit that into your teacher’s schedule.
- For students that may not be actively sick, but are showing mild symptoms (sneezing, stuffy nose, etc.), in-person lessons must be masked for both students and teachers. No exceptions.
- Teachers who, upon arrival, find a sick student, may choose to end the lesson at any point. Lessons cancelled in this fashion are subject to our standard cancellation policy (outlined above).
- If your instructor is ill, they will either cancel their teaching day or pivot to virtual lessons for the day.
Substitute teachers
In order to maintain student progress, Piano Power offers substitute teachers when your regularly scheduled teacher needs to miss multiple weeks of lessons (i.e., an extended absence).
Lesson environment
Piano Power requires the presence of a responsible adult at all times during lessons. We also recommend that you sequester pets and younger siblings in a different spot, and keep extraneous noise (TV’s, stereos, etc.) to a minimum once the lesson starts. A focused, uncluttered environment optimizes your lesson experience. Read more about creating an ideal practice space.
Anti-harassment & teacher safety policies
Piano Power has a strictly enforced anti-harassment policy to protect our teachers, students, and families. In agreeing to Piano Power’s overall policies, our families also agree to act in accordance with our anti-harassment policy. We encourage you to read our anti-harassment policy here.
It is your responsibility to provide your teacher a safe and friendly work environment. Piano Power reserves the right to cancel further lessons at any time, for any reason, based on feedback provided by our teachers.
Inclement weather
On days when travel is hazardous due to snowy or icy conditions, your teacher will conduct lessons virtually. They will send you a login link in advance of the lesson.
Withdrawals
We always take your lesson schedule one month at a time. To withdraw from lessons, please provide email notification to scheduling@pianopower.org by the 16th day of your final month. Your schedule will be discontinued starting the 1st of the following month, and any future automatic payments will be cancelled.
Our policies allow us to continue Piano Power’s legacy of great music education since 2007. Thank you for being a part of our Piano Power family!
