Instructor Profile

Kristin Daines
Piano, Voice
Kristin was raised in Connecticut surrounded by music, and with a mom who was herself a piano and voice teacher. Her love of music brought her to the Midwest when she attended the Michigan institution Interlochen Arts Academy for High School with a major in voice. She then continued her musical studies at DePauw University in Indiana and earned a Bachelor’s of Music for Vocal Performance.
Since 2003 she has performed extensively as a soloist, and as an ensemble member in projects that range from opera to musical theater to pop-rock. Currently, Kristin spends her time writing, composing, arranging and performing original music around Chicago in a 6 piece folk group she leads with her partner.
Kristin brings her life of music experience to her teaching by creating a welcoming environment for students to find their own musical identity through personalized lesson planning, thoughtful repertoire choices, and putting joy at the forefront. She values educating with positivity and understanding, healthy technique, a useful foundation of music theory knowledge, and learning through fun. Kristin loves fostering the skills students need to achieve their music goals and celebrating with them as they reach a new musical milestone.
